To The Honored The Justices Of The Court Of The General Sessions Of The Peace Now Holden At Taunton For The County Of Bristol On The 2nd Tuesday Of Sept 1787.  The Memorial Of The Selectmen of The Town of Freetown Humbly Shews That AT A Legal Town Meeting Held In Freetown In March For The Purpose Of Choosing Town Officers sd Town Joseph Norton Of Freetown Was Legally Chosen To The Office Of Constable For sd Town For The Year Ensuing & Duly Notified Thereof But Then & There At sd Meeting UTTERLY REFUSED SERVING IN SAID OFFICE & HATH EVERYSENCE STILL NEGLECTS TO QUALIFY HIMSELF FOR THE OFFICE OR PAY THE FINE AS REQUIRED BY LAW  Your Memorial Is Therefore Most Humbly Pray That The sd Joseph May Be Dealt With As The Law & Justice Appertains To As Duty Bound Be.
